Last week I listened to a sermon by Rick Gamache on 1 Peter 5:6-11. God really used it to convict me of worry and lack of prayer. Here is the passage, and I'll share a few of Rick's thoughts along with my own.
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
"My greatest enemy is my pride! There is nothing worse than having God opposing me." Rick went on to explain how pride is evidenced in our lives via worry and prayerlessness.
"Humility positions us to receive God's grace, and there is nothing better than God's grace."
As I listened to this message and studied out the passage, the Holy Spirit began to show me where my own pride had been evidenced in worry and lack of prayer. I'm so thankful for God using His Holy Spirit and Word to convict me of sin - what a blessing this is! He cares for me. His desire is that in humility I would cast ALL of my cares upon Him, instead of foolishly holding on to some of them through worry and fear. Thank You, Lord for this truth today!
