Lunch & the Gospel

Kendrick & I had an interesting conversation during lunch today. He and Caleb were both in high chairs eating as I nursed Camden. Out of the blue, Kendrick looked over at me and said, "God has yuckies too."

I couldn't keep from laughing as I said, "What?"

He repeated it, "God has yuckies too." (Yucky is our word for dirty diaper.)

I said, "No, I don't think He does, but baby Jesus did."

"Mmhmm." He replied.

Where does he come up with this stuff? I have no idea, but I love how he keeps me laughing.

Later on he held up a piece of his hot dog and yelled, "It's a basketball!"

"No, honey, it's not. It's a hot dog. But you could pretend it's a basketball and that your mouth is the basketball hoop."

"Oh yeah!" He proceeded to slam dunk the rest of his hot dog pieces into his mouth while Caleb clapped. He even let me shoot a couple in when I was done feeding Camden.

Earlier in the day we were listening to his Seeds cd, and the song "Grace" came on. (I LOVE Seeds because their music is awesome and is comprised of pure Scripture.) This song is Eph. 2:8 - "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God." I overheard Kendrick singing, "Not self, gift of God, not self, gift of God."

I loved hearing him sing, but it was also awesome how God allowed him to be singing that particular song. We had a rough morning. I lost track of how many times I had to discipline him and Caleb. After disciplining them we pray that God will help them to obey, because God is the only One who can. Sometimes I take the time to share the Gospel with them too. How cool to be able to get to share with Kendrick & Caleb as Kendrick was singing these lyrics that this verse teaches exactly what they had been struggling over this morning. The only hope we have for obedience, for true salvation from our sins, is through God's gift of His Son Jesus. It is not of ourselves.

What a good reminder to me as a mom that my son is a sinner just like me. He is not capable of pleasing God without God's grace in his life, just as I am not capable of pleasing God without His grace in my life.

Hi Christie! Loved your words here. Thank you for the insight. I had a rough day at school today, too. The children (particularly one band student and one Honors boy) did not cooperate with me. It's tough to be consistent, but yet lovingly firm. I think Thanksgiving is kind of rough for some of my broken-homes kiddos. Joel and Micah will not be home for Thanksgiving, and I am just missing them, I guess.

Love you and Kyle, and the boys,
Nancy :)
Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Oh, Christie, you are such a blessing with me - reminding me how I should be disciplining my little ones, and always turning the conversation back to God and the gospel - you are doing an amazing job - I can't imagine how busy you are with 3 little ones during your days! :) I loved hearing about Kendrick singing God's word - I love hearing my Z sing his Scripture songs, too, it's always so encouraging. :)

HAHAHA. He is too funny.
I can't wait to hear what he has to say at Christmas.

Its neat how God uses even the little ones to speak truth.
