We had the opportunity to travel to Galena, IL to be with Kyle's extended family over Thanksgiving. What a blessing that time was! It was a little different this year because none of Kyle's immediate family were there. Walt, Jess & Levi had just moved to WV and weren't able to make it. Ron & Diane took a trip over to Ireland to visit Elena, and Gabe is still in China. So, I must admit that I was a bit uncertain as to how the trip would go, but God was so good.
The boys traveled really well, and nursing in the car wasn't too bad. :) Don't worry, the car was parked, I didn't nurse while driving. Grandma rented an old farmhouse and some of us spent the night there. Neither of the boys slept well, but they didn't keep the rest of the family up, praise the Lord!
My favorite time was Friday morning when we got to sit in on some family time with the Hoover family. Kyle's cousin, Ryan, left today for Iraq. He is a helicopter pilot. His father, Bruce (Uncle Goose according to Kendrick), has served in the military too. Bruce led a special time, challenging his son, sharing Scripture, and leading the family in prayer. It was such a Deuteronomy 6 moment -
"These words which I command you shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."
I was grateful to be able to witness and participate in this special time. I'm so grateful for those that serve our country, and I'm even more grateful for family that is living out God's Word.
