The Satisfaction of My Desire

Psalm 145:15-19
"The eyes of all look expectantly to You,
And You give them their food in due season.
You open Your hand
And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The LORD is righteous in all His ways,
Gracious in all His works.
The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.
He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He also will hear their cry and save them."

Last night something my 2-year-old said reminded me of this passage, and I wanted to share it with you. Let me give you a brief background . . .

I feel like we have been running a marathon. Last week we potty trained. Over the weekend my brother's family was here from Colorado and we celebrated my niece Aubrie's 1st birthday (and found out Erica is expecting #3 - woohoo!), Monday and Tuesday we traveled to MP to visit my in-laws and attend the State Meetings, Wednesday I babysat, had teens over and went to church, and then we come to Thursday.

Thursday - yesterday - God enabled me to take care of 3 little boys, do 6 loads of laundry, make dinner, balance the checkbook, and make a grocery list. I had to get all of this done before my hubby got home at 5:30 so that I could go grocery shopping and be back by 7:30 before Camden needed to nurse again. (We were in desperate need of groceries. I usually go shopping on Mondays, but with all that was going on I wasn't able to go until Thursday.)

When I returned home with the groceries, I went straight to my screaming, hungry infant and began to feed him. I had left all of the groceries in the hallway, and Kyle and Kendrick began to bring them into the apartment. Then Kendrick started to help put them away. He was so thrilled with each new item he pulled out of the bag. "Jelly! It's jelly, Mom!" and "Cheese! More cheese, Dad!" and my favorite was, "Gel - for Daddy's hair!" he yelled this as he ran to the bathroom carrying the gel.

As I was sitting on the couch nursing Camden, listening to Kendrick's joy over each and every grocery item I had just purchased, God brought these verses from Psalm 145 to mind. Sometimes I forget to be grateful for the food God gives us to sustain us. Or for the money He gives us to buy the food. Last night, I was definitely seeing grocery shopping as a chore, wishing I didn't have to go and could somehow have all of the groceries I needed magically delivered to my door. Watching my 2-year-old's enthusiasm over our food reminded me that I need to be thankful for each and every grocery item the Lord has given us from His open hand.

Not only does He satisfy my physical needs from His open hand, He meets my spiritual needs. These verses say that He is righteous, gracious, near to me; He hears my cries and fulfills my desires.

We have received so many blessings through this busy season. God continues to prove Himself to be the satisfaction of our desires.
