This weekend we had the opportunity to travel to Cedar Rapids for my cousin's wedding reception. What a fun trip we had. While Curtis and I were the only Johnson kids able to go, and my hubby had to stay home, I really enjoyed getting to spend time with my Laird cousins.
It's been a long time since I've seen some of them - Jenna in particular. We hadn't even met each others children! What fun it was to meet little Analie (their miracle baby) face to face. What a sweet time to see our children "playing" together, along with Ashley-Nicole's son, Jeshuah. I was overwhelmed with God's goodness to us.
Kendrick is currently in love with cows. He thought it was amazing that Uncle Doug had cows and LOVED getting to see them and the barn. Curtis generously offered to walk around with Kendrick longer than I would have. While Jenna and I were walking back to the house, each of us with a baby on our hip, I was just marveling at how quickly time has passed. It seems like just yesterday that we were little girls, running around in that yard, trying to hide from our little sisters so we could discuss big, important topics - like boys.
Time is passing so quickly. I LOVED getting to see our babies rolling around, running and crawling where I had spent hours fellowshipping with their mothers. Some favorite memories of mine include - the traditional cousins' pyramid, time spent singing around the piano, watching Uncle Doug move the tv upstairs and hooking it up so we can all watch the thrilling All-State concert, sharing what we are thankful for at Thanksgiving time, listening to Grandpa sing and share God's truths with us . . . I could go on and on.
As I was reflecting on the day, God brought this verse to mind:
Psalm 102:18
"This will be written for the generation to come,
That a people yet to be created may praise the LORD."
As much as I want my kids to be able to have what I had/have - awesome relationships with godly cousins - I want them to know God more. I want them to be the "people yet created" that will praise the Lord. And the cool thing about this is that this is what our parents wanted too. Not only did they provide godly friends for us in our cousins, they taught us about God - how to know Him and how to praise Him. For this, I am eternally grateful.

Hi Christie,
I just want you to know that I do read your blog. I enjoyed this post because I can so relate. I have some really wonderful cousins, and I have wonderful parents who brought me up to do what we are created to do! Thanks for inspiring thankfulness and joy in my heart!

It was such a joy to see you, too! So many fun memories growing up, and you're right; time HAS flown. Your boys are so sweet. And so cute! I just love Kendrick's personality and Camden's so funny! It took us so long to get those kiddos together. I'm rooting for a Richardson reunion next summer!
